  • Sous Vide cooking is a slow process. This is the same for all sous vide cookers because of the low temperatures used. For example, a 1″ thick steak takes 1 hour at 129ºF (53.9ºC).

    I am an avid crockpot user as I work 9 hour days and like my food to be ready when I get home. This is very interesting as this looks to be pretty versatile for slow cooking. I do love my crockpot buy it takes up so much room as I live in a small townhome. How does this compare to a crockpot? Could I potentially replace my crockpot with this?

      The Chefman Sous Vide Precision Cooker takes up a lot less space than a crockpot. It only weighs 2.5 lbs and is roughly 16″ long by 4″ at its widest point. You will have to supply your own cooking container but any large pot will do. However, the good news is that the size of what you want to cook is only limited by the size of your pot. You can even use a beer cooler, lol.

      Comparing sous-vide cooking to slow cooking is a blog post in itself, there are lots of similarities and many differences. However, the short answer is that yes, a sous-vide cooker can replace your crockpot for most cooking needs. And you will be more than pleased with the results.
