Cuisinart Smart Stick CSB-75 Review

Cuisinart Smart Stick CSB-75 Hand Blender

The Cuisinart Smart Stick CSB-75 Hand Blender is great for those small, quick jobs that don’t require a large countertop or professional blender. Soups, dips, purées, smoothies, shakes, slushies, salad dressings, and more are easily made since this blender will chop, blend and purée the most common ingredients.

Cuisinart Smart Stick CSB-75 Hand Blender

Product Overview

The Cuisinart CSB-75 Smart Stick 200 Watt 2 Speed Hand Blender is available in 5 colors, white, red, brushed chrome, metallic red and pink. It is relatively inexpensive for the power and functionality delivered so you can afford it in addition to your larger blender.

The blender comes with a comfort grip handle with fingertip accessible pushbuttons. When the pushbutton is held down the unit runs, when released it stops. The new models have an additional button on top that must be pressed while holding the pushbutton down. When the pushbutton is released the motor stops. This can be done one-handed with enough hand strength and dexterity. But, for me, it’s a two-handed operation making pulse mode difficult and somewhat frustrating when trying to hold a bowl in place at the same time.

  • Slushies
  • Shakes

Who Is This Blender For Or Not?

This blender is for those who need a small but powerful handheld, easy to clean blender. It is good for daily use but the plastic gear is going to wear out so durability is an issue. However, due to the low cost, you can replace it several times over for the price of other units that may or may not outlast it.

One of the major drawbacks is the strength and dexterity needed to push the buttons, especially the newer models with additional lock/unlock button. If you have arthritis or are elderly, this blender is not for you.

Not for you? See some other types of blenders on my Small Kitchen Appliances For You/Blenders page.

Mixing – The two-speed operation is handy. For making soups, you can do most of the job on low speed, even with chunky vegetables. This makes it easier to control how thick the final product is, and it makes for less possibility of splash-ups. The switch feel is sure (good tactile feel). The blade is stocky and sharp – it looks like it’s built for business. I blended a large pot of tomato black bean garlic soup down in under 30 seconds.

Motor – Plenty of power. It’s quiet compared to my last blender (especially on low), which was 3x the price. I cannot comment on durability yet, as this is a new model.

Size/weight/feel – Hefty, but not heavy. It has a quality feel with a nice balance. If it were too light, it would feel cheap.

Cord – Long enough to get the job done, but not too long to make wrapping up the cord much of a hassle.

Assembly/Cleaning – Easy to attach/detach. The lock-up feels solid. So far, there’s little mechanical play in the interface. It’s very easy to clean by hand if you don’t wait for it to dry up.

I’ve grown to like Cuisinart products. It looks like they have a winner here.

Warning! The newest model of this unit is NOT what received all of the past positive reviews. The new model has a lock switch on top that forces you to use two hands just to use it. This is the first time I have ever bought a “best seller” on Amazon and it turned out to be horrible. Read some of the most recent reviews and you’ll see that this blender is awkward and irritating since it was revised with the lock switch.

Imagine if you had a TV remote control and you had to press and hold a button on the side of the remote with your left hand just to be able to use any of the normal buttons on the remote with your right hand. That’s what this blender is like. So please avoid this product, and by doing so you’ll save yourself more aggravation that you can imagine.

I needed a new immersion blender and decided to up my game with this model. I use it almost daily and love it. It is easy to clean, and of good quality. I love the stainless steel. So much nicer than my last 2 plastic ones. Totally worth the cost.

Update: the bottom half stopped working properly. Called the company, it was covered under warranty, and they shipped me a new one. Was disappointed that it broke so quickly, however the company’s willingness to help, combined with my love and daily use of this product, makes it a winner, still! Hopefully, the issue I had was just a fluke.

My Final Opinion

For kitchen tasks like blending hot soup or mixing hot chocolate and even heavier duty chores like mashing potatoes or mixing frozen cocktails, I give the Cuisinart Smart Stick CSB-75 Hand Blender a score of 70 out of 100 and a cautionary Buy.
I give it a “cautionary” note due to the number of complaints about difficulty with the pushbutton controls, the reports of broken blades and the shipping costs associated with the limited warranty. It is an otherwise great, low-cost, hand blender as long as nothing goes wrong with the unit, as is the majority cases.
