Keurig K-Elite Single Serve Coffee Maker – Overview

Name:Keurig K-Elite Single Serve Coffee Maker
Manufacturer:Keurig Dr. Pepper
CEO:Bob Gamgort
Manufactured In:Burlington, Massachusetts, U.S.A.
Overall Rank:93 out of 100

The Keurig K-Elite has a modern design with a premium brushed finish. It comes in two colors, brushed slate and brushed silver. Both feature stylish metal details.

Built for convenience, Keurig coffee makers are fast and easy to use. Brew coffee in less than a minute with very little hassle.

At the same time early Keurig models took easy to its ultimate limits. Put water in, pop a pod in, and bingo a cup of coffee is made.

However, people have different tastes and so Keurig has responded. The K-Elite has customization features that make it a standout among single-serve coffee makers.

Keurig K-Elite Single Serve Coffee Maker – Features

Capacity

The Keurig K-Elite Single Serve Coffee Maker has a large 75-oz. (2.2 L) water reservoir. You can make up to nine 8-oz. cups of coffee without refilling.

If 8 ounces isn’t your preferred size of cup don’t worry. It can use 5 different K-Cup pod sizes: 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 oz.

On the downside some people have trouble carrying the 75-oz. reservoir full of water and juggling it back onto the machine without spillage. In this case bring a container with a pouring spout over to the machine and fill the reservoir from it.

You can place any container up to 7.2″ tall under the coffee makers discharge.

Strength Control

Another great feature is the brew strength control. The Keurig K-Elite Single Serve Coffee Maker has a “STRONG” button to give you a bold tasting cup of coffee.

The difference between Strong Brew and regular taste is noticeable but not overpowering or bitter. Whenever you need that extra shot of flavor a bolder cup gets your mojo going.

Iced Setting

Iced Coffee
The button marked “ICED” is for brewing coffee directly over ice without watering it down by pouring hot coffee over frozen cubes. There are better ways to make iced coffee but this is faster and more convenient. In your modern fast-paced world speed and convenience is often just what you need.

Variety

The Keurig K-Elite Single Serve Coffee Maker accepts almost any brand of single-serve K-Cup. Keurig learned their lesson the hard way with Keurig 2.0 machines that only worked with Keurig branded K-Cups.

So now you can choose from 100’s of brands and flavors of coffee in K-cup compatible pods.

Also, Keurig has a Universal My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter (sold separately) that can be used to brew packaged or freshly ground coffee.

Temperature Control

The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) recommends a water temperature of 195°F – 205°F (91°C – 96°C) for the best coffee extraction. The Keurig K-Cup Single Serve Coffee Machine allows you to adjust temperature between 187°F and 192°F (86°C – 89°C).

Although brewing coffee at higher temperature may give you optimum extraction quality it can also burn your mouth. So if you are in a hurry, the lower temperature may be what you want.

Altitude Adjustment

If you live at a higher altitude you know how temperature affects water differently than a sea level. It boils sooner the higher the altitude. Standard coffee makers brew weaker tasting coffee as a result. The K-Elite has a high altitude setting that lowers the water temperature to ensure that your coffee tastes just as good no matter where you live.

Auto-On/Off

Another great feature of the Keurig K-Elite Single Serve Coffee Maker is the programmable clock. You can set a start time so that your morning cup of coffee is brewed, hot and ready for you to start the day.

You can also save energy by setting the auto-off timer for up to 2 hours in 15-minute intervals after your last brew.

On Demand

The large water reservoir really comes in handy when you want just hot water for soups, sauces, oatmeal, tea, and so on. Without a K-Cup inserted, press the HOT WATER button and any mug size button (4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 oz.) for hot water on demand.

Alerts

The Keurig K-Elite Single Serve Coffee Maker has an empty reservoir indicator and a maintenance reminder that simplifies keeping it clean and operating properly.

Cons:

  • Large water reservoir can be difficult for some people to return to the machine without spilling.
  • Complaints about K-Elite machines turning on by themselves in the morning and draining the reservoir all over kitchen counters. Keurig replaced all of them under warranty (sometimes several times). Appears to have been a design defect that has been fixed.
  • Also some complaints about the Keurig causing arc fault protection circuit breakers (AFCI) in newer homes. AFCI circuit breakers are there to prevent electrical fires in your home, do not change them to an ordinary or even GFCI circuit breaker which performs a different safety function. AFCIs are improving, have your electrician see if a different make/model will solve this incompatibility problem.

  1. This K elite coffee maker is just unique the way it is and I just like it. I don’t think I have seen exactly this kind or coffee maker before. Such a one can even wet someone appetite to drink coffee and you will just feel like to drink coffee even when you initially did not intend to do so.

  2. I was reading up the stuff here and I just saw the part about iced coffee. ICED COFFEE. Like…that is a concept that doesn’t make sense to me in my mind…But considering I drink coffee with milk…what if it’s super delicious? It would still give a caffeine boost…I mean, I also like iced tea…dang. I’m super interested now. I’ve been off coffee for a while, not as an abstinence thing, I just haven’t had the chance of motivation to get it. But since I might start back school later this year, I might be needed some more helpings…

    1. Hi Caldero,

Yes, iced coffee is becoming a popular drink now. Great in the summer when you have to have a coffee but it’s so hot you don’t want a hot drink. Especially great if you are not a tea drinker.

      Thanks for the comment.

  3. Hmm a coffee maker, I can smell coffee already in the air. I’ve not had cold coffer before oh and I wonder how it will taste especially because I like my coffee extra black.

I like that it brews coffee in about a minute and the ability to set the temperature.

A product I’ll surely be looking to have.

    Thanks for sharing,
